The ‘Aluth Avurudda’ or the Sinhala and Tamil New Year is extra special for bird-lovers like us as Koha (Asian Koel) is considered the harbinger of the new
year. We also get a number of holidays in the month of April to travel or relax at home; so we can use this time for birding. Why not do this collectively –
let’s join hands together for birds through Avurudu Bird Count 2023 (ABC2023). Avurudu Bird Count is a citizen science project aimed at popularizing bird watching while encouraging record keeping. Participating ABC2023 is simple – what you have to do is watch birds, enter this record to www.ebird.org, and then share it with ‘ABC2023’.
You can enter the birds seen during your trips or simply watch birds in your home garden. Birds in the university, office premises etc. are another possibility. Be free to enter any number of checklists as more participation will help a clearer analysis at the end of the month. Present the joy of birdwatching to as this year’s Avurudu Gift..!!
අලුත් අවුරුදු මාසයේ දී අප අවට කුරුල්ලන් නරඹා ඔවුන් පිළිබද ගණනයක් කිරීම අරමුණු කරගනිමින් ක්ෂේත්ර පක්ෂි විද්යා අධ්යයන කවය (Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka – FOGSL) විසින් ‘අවුරුදු කුරුළු නැරඹුම” නමින් පුරවැසි විද්යා වැඩසටහනක් (Citizen Science Project) සංවිධානය කර තිබේ.
